DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into contracts with Charter and Verizon to provide local and long-distance telephone, data communications, and internet services.

The Technology and Innovation Department (TI) is responsible for purchasing, deploying, and maintaining local and long distance telephone, data communications, and internet services that support citywide facilities, technologies, and staff, including mobile workforce and vehicles. The services provided by Charter and Verizon enable a diverse range of communications and technology services to operate, and their infrastructure provides the City alternatives for meeting new and emergent communication technology needs.

The City has over 150 facilities using local and long distance telephone, data communications, and internet services, and over 50 of these facilities are currently using Charter or Verizon. As needs and emerging circumstances arise, the City routinely adds and removes facilities and services to meet the City’s operational needs.
