DISCUSSION
The Long Beach Police Department (PD) is requesting City Council approval to receive and expend grant funding from the State of California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) in the amount of $97,500. The grant provides funding for overtime, investigative services, and training to identify and eliminate the crime and public nuisance incidents associated with ABC-licensed establishments and ensure compliance with City and State laws. The grant term is July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Arturo D. Sanchez on August 16, 2021 and by Budget Analysis Officer Greg Sorensen on August 20, 2021.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on September 14, 2021, to expedite use of the grant funds.

FISCAL IMPACT
The City will receive funding up to $97,500 for the period of July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022 from the State of California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. An appropriation increase is requested in the amount of $97,500 in the General Grants Fund Group in the Police Department, offset by grant revenue. There is no match or in-kind service mandate. This recommendation has no staffing impact beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is consistent with existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
