TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay sum of $325,000, in full settlement of lawsuit entitled Jackeline Almeida, et al. v. City of Long Beach, et al., United States District Court Case No. 2:19-cv-08391-DDP (Ex).

DISCUSSION

Plaintiffs allege that on or about November 10, 2018, Long Beach Jail personnel caused Alan Ramos' wrongful death.

Following extensive negotiations, Plaintiffs agreed to accept $325,000.00 -- inclusive of attorneys' fees and costs -- as a full, global settlement of this case.

The settlement was discussed in closed session, and approved, by the Government, Personnel and Elections Oversight Committee on April 20, 2021.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
