TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Public Works Department by $7,500, offset by the Third Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide funding for the installation of speed cushions on Ximeno Avenue between Broadway and 2nd Street; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $7,500 to offset a transfer to the Public Works Department.

DISCUSSION

In response to persistent and validated speeding concerns from residents living on Ximeno between Broadway and Second Street, the Public Works Department’s Traffic Engineering staff recommend the installation of speed cushions to reduce traffic speeds in this location. In an effort to improve public traffic safety and reduce automobile speeds in this location where Traffic Engineering have identified an issue, it is appropriate for this traffic infrastructure project to be supported by Council Office District funds.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on Monday, March 15, 2021.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation provides District Priority Funds to install speed cushions on Ximeno Ave. between Broadway and 2nd Street in the Third District. The total appropriation increase in the General Fund Group in the Public Works Department by $7,500 is offset by a decrease of appropriation of Third Council District One-Time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
