TITLE

WITHDRAWN

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $20,000, offset by the Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to Closet Care for workforce development and interview preparation programming; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $20,000 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

Closet Care is a Long Beach based non-profit organization which strives to mentor formerly incarcerated men through workforce development skills. Closet Care works with Black Long Beach community leaders to collect suits, ties, socks, shoes to prepare men for job interviews. These men also work with Closet Care to host workshops for youth on how to tie ties, dress to impress, and basic etiquette skills needed for the working world.

A contribution to Closet Care will help support their efforts especially in the Central area of Long Beach where the need for reentry programs is highly valued.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on November 24, 2020.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to Closet Care for workforce development and interview preparation programming. The total appropriation increase in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $20,000 is offset by the Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the Citywide Activities Department. Implementing this recommendation is anticipated to result in a minimal impact on staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

DEE ANDREWS

VICE MAYOR, SIXTH DISTRICT
