TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute a donation agreement with the Long Beach Firefighter’s Museum, for the donation of a 2008 Ford F-250 utility vehicle, formerly used by the Fire Department’s Warehouse/Storage Division, with an estimated value of $2,800, for general use at the museum and public viewing at community events.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION

City Council approval is requested to execute a donation agreement with the Long Beach Firefighter’s Museum, to provide a retired 2008 Ford F-250 utility vehicle for general use at the museum and public viewing at community events. This unit has already been replaced and would normally be sent to auction.

Donation of the retired utility vehicle will allow the volunteer staff to use the vehicle for general transportation and facility maintenance. In addition to using the vehicle for general use, the museum also intends to use the utility vehicle for future community events.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Taylor M. Anderson on October 19, 2020 and by Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on October 15, 2020.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

City Council action is requested on November 17, 2020, to ensure the donation of the utility truck can take place expeditiously.

FISCAL IMPACT

The vehicle has a resale value of approximately $2,800. If this unit were sold at auction, the salvage revenue would accrue to the Fleet Services Fund Group in the Financial Management Department. This recommendation has no staffing impact beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is consistent with existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
