TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute a Public Walkways Occupancy Permit for sidewalk dining at The Social List, at 2105 East 4th Street.  (District 2)

DISCUSSION

The operator of The Social List, at 2105 East 4th Street, requests a permit to temporarily occupy part of the adjoining sidewalk for the purpose of sidewalk dining. The proposed permit area and the list of furnishings to be placed in the permit area are shown on Attachment A. Approval of this permit is based on the conditions and standards of Chapter 14.14 of the Long Beach Municipal Code, which describes temporary uses of public right-of-way.

The width of the sidewalk along St. Louis Avenue varies from 10 to 16 feet. A minimum clearance of 6 feet will be maintained along the sidewalk between the restaurant and the permit area to provide for acceptable sidewalk clearance. This permit request proposes to use the recently constructed 16-foot wide bulb-out sidewalk section along St. Louis Avenue for their sidewalk dining.

This matter was approved by the Department of Development Services Building and Safety Bureau on July 26, 2018, by Deputy City Attorney Linda T. Vu on July 24, 2018, and by Budget Analysis Officer Julissa José-Murray on July 30, 2018.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

City Council action on this matter is not time critical.

FISCAL IMPACT

A permit processing fee of $664 was deposited in the General Fund (GF) in the Public Works Department (PW), and a security deposit of $625 was collected to ensure sidewalk repairs upon permit termination. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
