TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all necessary documents to enter into an agreement with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, for access to office space within the Long Beach Police Department for State Parole services, at no cost, for a period of one year.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION

City Council approval is requested for the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) to enter into an agreement with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, for access to office space with the City of Long Beach, at no cost, for State Parole services.  LBPD desires to provide parole prevention and intervention services to assist in the reduction of incidents of truancy, criminality, and other serious behavioral problems.  State Parole has statutory authority to provide certain expertise and resources in these areas.

Under the terms of this agreement, LBPD will maintain access to office space for one to two days a week for a State Parole representative(s) to perform State Parole services.  State Parole will provide, maintain, and support the co-located representative with equipment, such as a computer and cell phone, for business-related activities.  Either party may withdraw participation from this agreement with 30 days written notice.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Monica J. Kilaita on June 8, 2018 and by Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on June 20, 2018.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
