TITLE

WITHDRAWN

Recommendation to request City Council to support AB 1761 (Muratsuchi) regarding employee safety for hotel workers and request City Manager to communicate the City's support to the bill's author and our state legislative delegation.

DISCUSSION

BACKGROUND:

Assembly Bill 1761 would require, among other things, that a hotel employer provide its employees with a panic button in order to summon assistance when working alone in a guestroom.

This legislation is consistent with the resolution adopted by the City Council in October 2017 supporting a safe work environment for all workers in Long Beach's hospitality industry, and encourages the best technology in terms of panic buttons and surveillance in the hospitality industry in all hotels.

AB 1761 would apply to hotel workers in all hotels, motels and bed and breakfast inns, regardless of the number of rooms.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no significant fiscal impact with this recommendation.
