TITLE
Recommendation to direct City Attorney to draft an ordinance amending Long Beach Municipal Code Chapter 14.14 to enable a gym parklet pilot project (Project) for the installation of a sidewalk extension parklet for fitness activities and equipment within the City's right-of-way adjacent to 333 Pine Avenue; and
Authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute a Public Walkways Occupancy Permit with sidewalk extension parklet for the Project at Groundwork Fitness located at 333 Pine Avenue.
DISCUSSION
Under the current guidelines presented in the Municipal Code parklets are only allowed to accompany existing restaurants who are looking to expand their seating area. Groundwork Fitness located at 333 Pine Ave has created an innovative and groundbreaking new concept for the use of a parklet to continue to improve the physical fitness of residents throughout Long Beach. As a business owner, Giovanna Ferraro, has been active in the Historic Pine Avenue Business Association (HOPA), donates her time to a variety of charitable organizations and currently serves as a member of the City's Human Relations Commission. This exemption is required to complete the process that Gio and Public Works have already begun to construct this parklet.
