DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested for the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) to enter into a contract with the County of Los Angeles Probation Department (Probation Department) to provide a Prevention and Intervention Program (PIP). This contract will provide LBPD a full-time Deputy Probation Officer for gang crime suppression services. The Deputy Probation Officer, who is assigned to the Gang Enforcement Section, interacts with both adult and juvenile offenders. The term of the new contract will be for a period of one year, from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018, with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods, as funds are available.

Additionally, the City Council approval is requested to amend Contract No. 34580 with the Probation Department by adding $30,000, for a total annual amount not to exceed $180,000. On September 23, 2014, the City Council approved City Manager to execute a contract with the Probation Department to provide a full-time Deputy Probation Officer for gang crime suppression services, in annual amount of $150,000, from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2017. Due to annual increases of the costs of these services, which includes adjustments to salary and employee benefits, an additional $30,000 is requested to cover contract expenditures through June 30, 2017.
