TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute a Vehicle Donation Agreement with the Long Beach Public Library Foundation, to accept the donation of a 2016 Ford Transit Van to be used as a Mobile Studio. (Citywide)

DISCUSSION
The Long Beach Public Library Foundation received grants from the LGA Foundation, California Resources Corporation Services and Tesoro Foundation to purchase a new 2016 Ford Transit Van for a Mobile Studio program for the Department of Library Services. The Mobile Studio program is an expansion of the highly successful Studio program implemented at Main Library in 2014. The purchase and transfer of this vehicle to Library Services will allow staff to continue and grow this program by delivering classes, workshops and other hands-on activities to residents throughout the City. This vehicle will be used to visit local branch libraries, schools, parks, community and senior centers. It will be equipped to transport laptop computers, 3D printers, robotics components, and other STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) related programming supplies. The goal of the Mobile Studio program is to expose our residents, particularly at-risk children and teens, to cutting edge technologies, and inspire and assist them to produce their own creative and/or entrepreneurial projects.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Amy R. Webber on March 9, 2016 and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on March 10, 2016.
