TITLE
Recommendation to adopt resolution approving the terms of compensation for the Interim City Clerk. (Citywide)

DISCUSSION
The City Clerk for the City of Long Beach has announced his retirement effective the end of April 2015. On March 3, 2015, following a closed session held pursuant to California Government Code Section 54957, the City Council by a vote of 7-0 approved the appointment of Poonam Davis as the Interim City Clerk. The effective date of this position will be May 1, 2015. It is anticipated the Interim City Clerk will serve during the recruitment, selection and transition period for a new City Clerk. The current estimate is that the interim period will run from May 1, 2015 through August of 2015.

Following approval of the Interim City Clerk, the City Council met in closed session on March 24, 2015, pursuant to California Government Code Section 54957.6, to provide direction to labor negotiators regarding the terms of compensation for the Interim City Clerk.

At the direction of the City Council, the City has reached an agreement regarding the compensation for the Interim City Clerk. The proposed compensation must be approved by the City Council in open session. The proposed compensation for the Interim City Clerk is $71.820 per hour, or $149,899 on an annualized basis. This amount represents the current compensation paid to the current City Clerk.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Gary Anderson and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on March 27, 2015.
