DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Griffith Company (Griffith) for construction of the Terminal Roadway Improvements Project (Project) at the Long Beach Airport (Airport).

The terminal roadway, also known as East Donald Douglas Drive, is the sole access route for inbound and outbound commercial passengers, vendors, employees, and visitors at the Airport. A primary element of the Project is addressing congestion and efficiency in the area directly in front of the historic terminal building. The improvements will include a straightened and widened sidewalk and curb, new raised pedestrian crosswalks, a relocated pedestrian island, and widening of the roadway with an additional auxiliary vehicle lane. These improvements will enhance pedestrian safety, accessibility, and vehicle throughput efficiency. The roadway work includes several areas of full structural pavement reconstruction and other areas with less distress that will be rehabilitated by grind and overlay. Additionally, new wayfinding signage consistent with the Airport signage plan will be installed. The Project will enhance safety and preserve existing capacity.
