Title
Ordinance amending the Long Beach Municipal Code by amending Section 16.08.460 by amending Subsection E and adding Subsection I relating to fishing restrictions.  (Districts 2,3)

DISCUSSION
The Municipal Code, Section 16.08.460, delineates areas of the Long Beach waterfront, bays and harbors where fishing is not allowed. The Municipal Code is currently inconsistent with fishing practices in certain areas of the waterfront. Years ago, the City installed a fishing platform adjacent to the Marina Drive Bridge over the San Gabriel River outlet, yet the Municipal Code does not allow fishing from that platform. In addition, the fishing restriction section of the Municipal Code includes no restriction for the Golden Shore Biological Reserve and the Jack Dunster Marine Biological Reserve, yet fishing is prohibited in these areas. This amendment would correct these inconsistencies.

The attached Ordinance, effecting these changes by amending Municipal Code Section 16.08.460, was prepared by Deputy City Attorney James McCabe.

This letter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney James McCabe on April 8, 2004, and by Budget Manager Michael Killebrew on April 6, 2004.
