Title
Ordinance amending the Long Beach Municipal Code by amending Section 10.38.020 relating to driving on sidewalks and bike paths. (Districts 2,3)
DISCUSSION
As the use of motorized scooters has increased in popularity, the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Marine has begun receiving complaints regarding the use of these motorized scooters on the beach bike path. As a result, the Marine Advisory Commission was asked to review this issue, in conjunction with the Police Department.
On November 20, 2003, the Marine Advisory Commission recommended the development of an Ordinance to prohibit the use of motorized vehicles and apparatus, with the exception of apparatus utilized for disabled individuals, on the bike paths that are on the beaches and adjacent to the City's marinas.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney James Mc Cabe on April 8, 2004, and Budget Manager Michael Killebrew on April 6, 2004.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action on this matter is requested on May 11, 2004, in order to implement the prohibition prior to summer 2004.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with the requested action.
IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL:
Declare the Ordinance read for the first time and laid over until the next regular meeting of the City Council for final reading.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Declare ordinance read the first time and laid over to the next regular meeting of the City Council for final reading.
