DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to enter into Citywide contracts with BPR, Inc., for sidewalk grinding services and Sunrise Concrete Cutting & Core Drilling, for concrete, asphalt cutting, and coring services. These contracts are utilized by various City departments including Harbor, Parks, Recreation and Marine, Public Works and Water for emergency and as-needed repairs of damaged security spikes in parking lots, electrical or water pipe projects requiring concrete cutting and coring, and smoothing of sidewalks damaged by tree roots. Implementation of services provided by the respective vendors are independent of each other; therefore, a split award is recommended to ensure that the City is provided with the lowest possible pricing.

The bid was advertised in the Press-Telegram on September 21, 2010, and 839 potential bidders specializing in concrete, asphalt cutting, coring services and sidewalk grinding services were notified. Of those bidders, 35 downloaded the bid via our electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing .
