TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay the sum of $85,000 in full settlement of lawsuit entitled Shalonica Patton v. City of Long Beach, Case No. NC052262.
DISCUSSION
Plaintiff and Long Beach Police Officers were involved in an altercation while Plaintiff was on a public bus. Plaintiff alleges that the officers' use of force was excessive, and she sustained physical injuries in the altercation. After settlement discussions with a retired Superior Court Judge, Plaintiff agreed to accept $85,000.00 as a full, global settlement of this case. The settlement was approved by the Economic Development and Finance Committee on September 7, 2010.
