TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to report on the status and scope of off-shore oil operations adjacent to Long Beach with particular focus upon what plan is in place to respond to an oil spill off the shore of Long Beach.

DISCUSSION
The City of Long Beach currently allows off-shore drilling for oil and gas. Even though the causes of the current oil spill in the Gulf Coast are being attributed to the depth of the drilling, a spill is still possible from any ocean operation, whether it be drilling or transporting in oil tankers.

It would helpful for the Council and public to know what plan is in place should an oil spill occur off the shore of Long Beach.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske
