DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to enter into contracts for paint, marine paint and supplies for the Airport, Community Development, Fire, Gas and Oil, Harbor, Library, Parks Recreation and Marine, Public Works and Water Departments, with Vista Paint Corporation and Sherwin Williams Company. These contracts are utilized on an as-needed basis by the various user departments to provide paint and related supplies for various City properties, including public restrooms, City facilities, libraries and a host of other various needs.

Based on historical expenditures, the annual amount requested is $205,000. Parks, Recreation and Marine, Public Works and Water Departments are the largest users. By awarding to two vendors, the City is ensuring availability and quick turn-around to maintain service continuity.

The bid for furnishing and delivering paint, marine paint and supplies was advertised in the Press-Telegram on December 12, 2009, and 131 potential bidders specializing in paint, marine paint, and supplies were notified. Of those bidders, 24 downloaded the bid via our electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update on Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 30 local, minority and women’s business groups.
