DISCUSSION
In 2000, the City Council authorized the execution of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Office Lease No. 26970 for the office premises at 2701 Atlantic Avenue, Suite B, for the establishment of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program. The WIC Program is a supplemental nutrition program that provides monthly food coupons, nutrition education, and referrals to prenatal and pediatric health care clinics for low-income, pregnant and postpartum women, infants and young children. The Long Beach Memorial Medical Center WIC office is one of the City’s five WIC sites and serves approximately 2,500 participants per month. The central location of the office allows convenient client access via several major public transportation corridors.

In July 2005, the City Council authorized the First Amendment to Lease No. 26970, whereby the term was extended for five years until June 30, 2010. The City shall maintain its occupancy at this site on a month-to-month basis while negotiating provisions of the proposed Lease amendment.

The proposed Second Amendment to Lease No. 26970 contains the following major terms and conditions.

· Landlord: Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, a California non-profit public benefit corporation.

· Tenant: City of Long Beach.

· Premises: The leased premises consist of approximately 1,559 rentable square feet of office space located at 2701 Atlantic Avenue, Suite B.
