TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to direct Public Works to provide a comprehensive update on the status of the Studebaker Road major corridor improvements project at the June 6, 2023 Council meeting.

DISCUSSION
On December 6, 2022, City Council approval was sought to increase appropriations in the Capital Projects Fund Group for the Studebaker-Loynes Completes Streets Project1.

On April 13, 2023, Congressman Robert Garcia announced his submission of Community Project Funding requests to the House Committee on Appropriations for funding consideration in the fiscal year 2024 cycle2. His requests included a $5M allocation for the City of Long Beach for the Studebaker Road corridor.

On May 2, 2023, additional City Council approval was requested to fund the various projects identified in the Fiscal Year 2023 Infrastructure Investment plan via anticipated bond proceeds from the Measure A Bond program3. During the City Council meeting of December 6, 2022, the staff report referenced the following target dates and budgets:
• Spring/Summer 2023 - anticipated bid issuance
• Fall 2023- anticipated construction kick-off
• Total project cost $18.5M
• $8.75M Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation grant funds
• $3.5M Measure A Bond program

In preparation for fiscal year budget negotiations and as new Council representation is now in two of the three Council District where this 5.7-mile project is located, a comprehensive update on the status of the project is requested. Any cost, schedule, or quality deviation from the December 2022 staff report should be included in the update.
