DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Kleinfelder, Inc., to provide environmental and engineering design services for the 2nd Street Bridge over Marine Stadium Rehabilitation Project (Project) (Attachment A).

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (County) is the designated bridge inspector for Los Angeles County, including bridges located in the City of Long Beach (City). The City, working with the County, identified necessary structural improvements for the 2nd Street Bridge (Bridge) over Marine Stadium. In May 2017, staff submitted a request for Federal Highway Bridge Program (HBP) funding, and was subsequently awarded a grant to design a replacement concrete deck, bridge barrier, and light posts. The Project will maintain a critical passageway across Alamitos Bay into the Naples Island and Belmont Shore areas from the Marina Pacifica area originally built in 1955.

The Request for Proposals (RFP) was advertised in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on April 20, 2022, and 839 potential proposers specializing in bridge engineering were notified of the RFP opportunity. Of those proposers, 55 downloaded the RFP via the City’s electronic bid system.
