TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $2,500, offset by the First Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to support the 2023 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,500 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

The new year will mark the return of the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. This City event celebrates the legacy of a civil rights leader whose activism has shaped our world and has helped guide our movement toward equity and inclusion.

It is an honor for Long Beach to be hosting this celebration as it highlights our city’s civic service values, and it provides a special opportunity for community to come together to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on December 30, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to support the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. The total appropriation increase of $2,500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of First Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
