TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $2,000, offset by the First Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide a donation to Sowing Seeds of Change to help make their urban farm site more accessible; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,000 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

Sowing Seeds of Change provides workshops and trainings that help create more awareness and preparation for sustainable agriculture. Their learning experience opportunities are hands-on, and their efforts are aimed at making healthy foods more accessible to all of Long Beach.

This contribution will support their efforts of making their urban farm site become wheelchair accessible. This request aligns with the City’s efforts on inclusivity.

This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on December 7, 2022.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

As this request is time sensitive, the processing of funding is of an urgent matter.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution Sowing Seeds of Change to help make their urban farm site more accessible. The total appropriation increase of $2,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of First Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

MARY ZENDEJAS, COUNCILWOMAN
