DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Bragg Investment Company, Inc., dba Coastline Equipment for the purchase of a John Deere 310L backhoe. The purchase includes a compaction wheel and two loader buckets, which are necessary for optimal utilization by the Public Works Department. This unit is an approved Fiscal Year 2018 replacement and will be used by the Public Works Street Maintenance Division, for excavation of old pavement, transportation of construction material, and removal of construction debris. Sufficient funds have been collected for the replacement of this equipment.

The Fleet Services Bureau of the Financial Management Department researched procurement options for heavy construction equipment and discovered other agencies had completed an open, fair, transparent, and competitive procurement process. The City of Long Beach (City) reviewed the cooperative agreement options and determined that the contract between Sourcewell and John Deere Construction Retail Sales, through its Long Beach distributor, Bragg Investment Company, provided the best value to the City.
