TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $12,000, offset by the Third Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a donation to the Belmont Shore Business Association in support of their Belmont Shore Christmas Parade; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $12,000 to offset by a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

For 38 years the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade has been an annual tradition bringing the community together from all across Long Beach to celebrate the holiday season. However, the parade has not been held the past two years due to COVID-19. With the parade once again scheduled to fill 2nd Street in Belmont Shore, with fun, music, floats, and enthusiastic paradegoers it is important that the city support this fantastic community event as it draws attendance throughout the region.

This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on December 1, 2022.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

Funds are sought as soon as possible because the parade was held December 3, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a donation to the Belmont Shore Business Association. The total appropriation increase of $12,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Third Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

SUZIE PRICE, COUNCILWOMAN
