DISCUSSION

Care Closet LBC is a grassroots organization that provides direct assistance to people experiencing homelessness. The core mission of Care Closet LBC is a steadfast commitment to meeting the needs of the unhoused community, focusing on serving people where they are by attending to both their immediate needs and helping facilitate their long-term goals. From delivering sleeping bags and new shoes to providing scholarships and employment

opportunities, Care Closet is helping to address one of the most urgent crises in our community. These funds will help support their ongoing mission during this critical time.

House of Haven provides short-term shared housing and support services for at-risk youth experiencing homelessness. Located in the 8th District, every teen who enters completes a

needs-based assessment and receives linkages to the services they need. Per House of Haven, 80% of youth served further their education, 70% gain employment or internship opportunities, and 50% move into stable housing. This important work is positively impacting the community, and these funds will help this organization continue helping teens in need.

Fairfield Family YMCA proudly serves uptown and North Long Beach communities from their 8th District location. With services focusing on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, there is a program for anyone in need. Fairfield Family YMCA has been a longtime partner of the 8th Council District office, and has helped put on holiday toy giveaways, back to school events, and more. This fund transfer will support the excellent support they provide to children, families, and young people in the community.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide contributions to three community organizations located in the Eighth Council District. The total appropriation increase of $9,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with the recommendation.
