DISCUSSION

The Tichenor Clinic for Children has been operating since in Long Beach since 1926 providing essential service to children and families in need. Today, Tichenor Clinic for Children offers a wide range of services including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, an early intervention program, a swim program, parent support program, and orthopedic consultation in partnership with Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital. Over 40,000 children and families have received the support of a dedicated team of therapists to this day, regardless of their ability to pay. In perpetuation of Tichenor Clinic for Children’s important work they are holding a concert in Recreation Park on October 6, 2022 from 5:20-7:30 PM.

With the positive community impact Tichenor Clinic for Children has played in Long Beach for 96 years, the City of Long Beach should support their work and this upcoming event.

STATEMENT OF URGENCY:

As this event is scheduled for October 6, 2022 funding is sought as soon as possible.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to the Tichenor Clinic for Children for their October 6, 2022 Tichenor Music in the Park being held in Recreation Park. The total appropriation increase of $1000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of $500 appropriation from the Third Council District One-time District Priority Funds and $500 appropriation from the Fourth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
