DISCUSSION
Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs is a 501(c)(3) organization that is a fiscal sponsor for the program Sowing Seeds of Change. Sowing Seeds of Change empowers change through agriculture and learning, with a primary objective of employing transition-age people with disabilities and foster youth ages 18-22 through a job-readiness program, the growth of organic produce, and hosting educational workshops for the local community.

Sowing Seeds of Change currently has an Urban Farm located in Council District One, where young adults with disabilities and transition age foster youth can learn practical gardening, farming, and life skills. Council District One has always had a lack of green space and activation at Sowing Seeds of Change’s location, and it is very important to know that Sowing Seeds of Change is upgrading and beautifying the location, while simultaneously working to help our youth and our local community. Sowing Seeds of Change provides a significant benefit to the Long Beach community, and it is appropriate for the City Council to support Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs in support of Sowing Seeds of Change.

This matter was reviewed by Recovery Budget Officer Dee Okam on August 3, 2022.
