TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $500, offset by the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide a donation to the Long Beach Public Library Foundation in support of the 19th Annual Grape Expectations fundraising gala; and
Decrease appropriation in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $500, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Since 1996, the Long Beach Public Library Foundation has bolstered the mission of Long Beach’s public libraries, encouraging literacy and education for all members of the community. The Foundation’s support provides vital free programs to over 1 million annual visitors at Long Beach’s 12 public libraries. Available programs include kindergarten readiness programs, one-on-one tutoring for students, 3D printing, STEAM workshops, employment skills support, homebound reader services for seniors, and more. On September 18, 2022, the Long Beach Public Library Foundation will host its 19th Annual Grape Expectations gala, its signature fundraising event to support their continued work on behalf of Long Beach’s libraries. I commend the Foundation’s commitment to this excellent cause and would like to request Council’s approval to lend my support toward this event.

FISCAL IMPACT
Because of the urgency of this item, a fiscal review was not able to be performed.
