TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $5,000, offset by the Sixth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide funds to support the Uptown Jazz Festival at Houghton Park; and

Decrease appropriations of the Sixth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $5,000 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

The City Manager's Office of Special Events and Filming will be organizing the Uptown Jazz Festival on August 27, 2022 at Houghton Park. The Uptown Jazz Festival is currently in its 11th year and remains a well-attended event that thousands of Long Beach families and community members attend. Residents come to the park and enjoy community, music, community resources, vendors, a kids' area, and more. This event offers a significant opportunity to conduct outreach to the community around the issues of health and economic recovery.

This matter has been reviewed by Recovery Budget Officer Dee Okam on August 5, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide funds to support the Uptown Jazz Festival. The total appropriation increase of $5,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Sixth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and have a minimal impact on City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
