TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $200, offset by the Sixth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a donation to the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library to support the Long Beach Librarian Appreciation event; and
Decrease appropriations of the Sixth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $200 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
The Long Beach Public Library with the Long Beach Public Library Foundation will once again host a special recognition event to acknowledge our city's Librarians. This will be the 5th annual celebration that began in 2016. About 75 guests are anticipated and a donation of $200 will go towards supporting this event. The Friends of the Long Beach Public Library (The Friends) are advocates for a strong public library system and continue to guard against censorship. The Friends provide materials, support summer reading programs, provide cultural and literary events for the community, and fund training for library staff.
This matter has been reviewed by Recovery Budget Officer Dee Okam on August 5, 2022.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library to support the Long Beach Librarian Appreciation Event. The total appropriation increase of $200 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Sixth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
