TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file a report for Mayor Garcia's travel to Washington, D.C., for meetings with Congressional members and federal agencies.
DISCUSSION
On July 17-20, 2022, Mayor Robert Garcia traveled to Washington, D.C., to visit with Congressional leaders and federal agency representatives. The Mayor met with the new director of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to discuss public safety priorities and legislation related to illegal firearms, and he met with the U.S. Department of Transportation to advocate for the City’s priority projects for funding through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act grant opportunities, including the expansion of On-Dock Rail at the Port of Long Beach and the Shoemaker Bridge replacement and Shoreline Drive realignment projects. The Mayor also met with Congressional leaders, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi to share updates to the City’s legislative priorities and federal issues affecting the City.
