DISCUSSION
This year, The LGBTQ Center Long Beach will be hosting the 29th anniversary of the Long Beach QFilm Festival (QFilms). QFilms is the oldest film festival in Long Beach and the only film festival in Long Beach focused on stories showcasing the LGBTQ community. This event will feature narrative films, documentaries, shorts and special tributes at the Art Theatre of Long Beach from Thursday, September 8 to Sunday, September 11, 2022, and will welcome movie lovers, industry professionals, and community members as they have the opportunity to attend screenings, parties, mixers, and Q&A’s with filmmakers.
QFilms will be displaying films about LGBTQ stories, which are stories that have historically been ignored in America, but also stories that need to be told. For a film festival to focus exclusively on LGBTQ films is important, not only for Long Beach, but our nation and all film festivals across the world. QFilms is making sure that films showcasing LGBTQ stories are seen by a diverse audience and promoting Long Beach as a city that proudly supports the LGBTQ community. It is appropriate for the City Council to support The LGBTQ Center Long Beach in support of the 2022 Long Beach QFilms Festival.
This matter has been reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on July 13, 2022.
