DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to amend Contract No. 34668 with Alta Planning + Design, Contract No. 34655 with City Fabrick, Contract No. 34663 with Westgroup Designs, Contract No. 34661 with Studio 111, Contract No. 34656 with Kamus Keller, Inc., and Contract No. 34657 with Environ Architecture, Inc., for as-needed urban planning design services.

On June 13, 2017, the City Council awarded contracts to eleven firms as part of its adoption of RFP PW17-059 for urban planning design services, for a two-year period, with the option to renew for three additional one-year periods, for an aggregate amount of $15,000,000.

The City of Long Beach (City) relies on the firms’ innovative approaches to incorporate livability in its planning and design efforts for various capital projects. Approaches include active transportation, complete streets, parks and open space development, and crime prevention through environmental design.

The current contracts expire June 30, 2022, and the City has exhausted authorized contract extensions. The procurement process for the next set of on-call urban planning design services is underway and City staff aim to complete the process before the contracts expire under this request (June 30, 2023).
