DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into an agreement with FEMA CalOES HMGP to accept and expend grant appropriate grant funding received from the FEMA CalOES HMGP for the Project.

FEMA CalOES’s HMGP supports projects that contain any sustainable action which reduces or eliminates long-term risk to people and property from future disasters by upgrading and constructing infrastructure. Mitigation planning breaks the cycle of disaster damage, reconstruction, and repeated damage. Hazard mitigation includes long-term solutions that reduce the impact of disasters in the future. FEMA CalOES’s HMGP has accepted the City of Long Beach’s (City) grant application to assist with upgrading and constructing infrastructure that will mitigate damage from natural disasters.

The City’s Local Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies floods, earthquakes, and windstorms as the three most likely hazards to impact the City. The City applied for funding to mitigate the impacts of flooding on the City’s stormwater infrastructure system. The proposed Project i...
