TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay sum of $125,000, in full settlement of lawsuit entitled Hanover Insurance Company v. City of Long Beach, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. NC061663.
DISCUSSION
This case involves allegations of significant stormwater damage to property at 442 W. Ocean Blvd. Plaintiffs contend that the City’s stormwater system was inadequate, which led to the property damage.
Following mediation and follow-up negotiations, the parties agreed to accept $125,000.00 - inclusive of attorneys’ fees and costs - as the City’s contribution to the global settlement.
The settlement was discussed in closed session, and approved, by the Government and Personnel Attorney-Client Committee on October 19, 2021.
