TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to work with the Public Works Department to report back in 30 days with an update on the current status of the e-scooter program and other mobility share programs.
DISCUSSION
As tourism returns to Long Beach, with major events and busy weekends, parking for cars, bicycles, and scooters will be filling up. It is important that residents, especially in tourism-heavy areas such as Downtown and Belmont Shore, know what to expect, what is being done to proactively address expected issues, and who to call when issues arise.
Additionally, residents have asked about the feasibility of creating scooter parking zones at entertainment and recreation destinations to help manage scooter drop-offs around those sites, such as at the Alamitos Beach parking lot.
To this end, please include the following in the report back, in addition to any other information staff would like to share:
● Information on number of scooters and the vendors who operate them, and any upcoming changes that may be planned for the program
● Information on the integration of scooter compliance reporting by residents within the Go Long Beach App
This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on August 27, 2021.
