DISCUSSION
The Ficker Cup, Congressional Cup, and United States Match Race Championships are hosted by Long Beach Yacht Club (LBYC). These events are world-class annual sailing regattas for keelboat match racing and are considered some of the most prestigious global match race competitions, only surpassed in stature by The America’s Cup. LBYC has requested that dock fees, in an amount not to exceed $5,000, be waived for events scheduled between September 9, 2021 and October 3, 2021 including:

Ficker Cup: September 9-12, 2021
Congressional Cup: September 13-20, 2021
United States Match Race Championships: September 30 - October 3, 2021

LBYC is currently adhering to all directives and guidelines regarding COVID-19. LBYC will continue to cancel/postpone any and all scheduled club events in accordance with COVID-19 community response parameters. This regatta event spotlights boating and sailboat racing in our marinas. They also generate additional tourism revenue for local businesses such as hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, boating supply stores, and other retail establishments. These benefits outweigh the revenue loss resulting from the waived dock fees. These events are consistent with the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department’s partnering policy to support organizations that provide a service to the community and its residents by promoting the Long Beach Marinas.
