TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute a donation agreement with the Long Beach Firefighter’s Museum, for donation of a 1987 Seagrave fire pumper, formerly used by the Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau, with an estimated value of $3,400, for public viewing at the museum and community events.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION

City Council approval is requested to execute a donation agreement with the Long Beach Firefighter’s Museum (Museum), to provide a retired 1987 Seagrave fire pumper for public viewing at the Museum. This unit has already been replaced and would normally be sent to auction.

Donation of the retired fire pumper will demonstrate and preserve the historical evolution of fire apparatus that has served the residents and businesses of Long Beach. In addition to displaying the fire pumper for public viewing at the Museum, the Museum also intends to use the fire pumper for future community events.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Taylor M. Anderson on January 19, 2021 and by Revenue Management Officer Geraldine Alejo on January 17, 2021.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

City Council action is requested on February 9, 2021, to ensure the donation of the fire pumper can take place expeditiously.

FISCAL IMPACT

The vehicle has a re-sale value of approximately $3,400.  If this unit were sold at auction, the salvage revenue would accrue to the Fleet Services Fund Group in the Financial Management Department. This recommendation has no staffing impact beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is consistent with existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
