TITLE
Recommendation to adopt resolution establishing a revised list of City Council Standing Committees, Council Authorities, and Special Committees. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
Per the City Council's direction on January 12, 2021, the attached Resolution establishing a revised list of City Council Standing Committees, and Council Authorities and Special Committees, is attached hereto for your consideration and approval.
The revised list of City Council Standing Committees is as follows, with duties as provided for in the Resolution:
• Budget Oversight Committee;
• Economic Development and Finance Committee;
• Federal Legislation Committee;
• State Legislation Committee;
• Public Safety Committee;
• Port, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee;
• Climate Action and Environmental Committee;
• Public Health and Housing Committee; and
• Government, Personnel and Elections Oversight Committee.
This Resolution further provides that each member of the City Council shall chair a committee, serve as vice chair of a second committee, and be a member of a third committee. Thus, each City Councilmember shall have membership on three (3) Standing Committees. Each Standing Committee is subject to the Ralph M. Brown Act and shall be assisted by staff members in preparing background information, agendas, distributing materials, and other necessary support functions.
Lastly, this Resolution renames "Council Authorities" to "Council Authorities and Special Committees", and transfers the Charter Amendment Committee, LBUSD Joint Use Committee, and 1-710 Oversight Committee to Council Authorities and Special Committees.
