DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested for the Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) to receive and expend grant funding from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES). On October 1, 2020, the Health Department was awarded new grant funding in the amount of $15,448 from the Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) Planning Subgrant for hazardous materials (HazMat) transportation emergency planning activities, for the period of October 15, 2020 through September 15, 2021. The grant funding will be used to review and update the Hazardous Materials Area Plan for the City of Long Beach (City) and to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal laws to protect the health and safety of the public from the effects of HazMat emergency incidents.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Taylor M. Anderson on January 6, 2021 and by Revenue Management Officer Geraldine Alejo on January 12, 2021.


TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on February 2, 2021, to expedite the provision of the grant-funded services.

FISCAL IMPACT
The City will receive grant funding in the amount of $15,448 for a one-year period.
