TITLE

Recommendation to request City Manager to provide a donation of $2,500 to Long Beach Organic Inc. and not the Community Action Team as was previously approved by City Council on August 4, 2020, funded by the Third Council District One-time District Priority Funds in support of the Community Garden at 914 Redondo Avenue.

DISCUSSION

On December 10, 2019 the City Council approved an Interim Park Use Permit to establish a community garden at 914 Redondo Avenue. Activating vacant lots with local food production reduces blight, increases neighborhood safety, and helps further the City's sustainability goals allowing residents a safe opportunity to garden in our urban environment. Encouraging community driven projects where residents collaboratively work together is a benefit to the City.

On August 4, 2020, the City Council approved a $2,500 payment to the Community Action Team for the Long Beach Organic Community Garden funded by the Third Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group. This recommendation provides a technical correction to make a payment to the correct organization.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager, Grace H. Yoon on November 4, 2020.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager Department to provide donation to Long Beach Organic, Inc a payment in support of the Community Garden at 914 Redondo Avenue. The funding for this donation was previously approved by City Council on August 4, 2020 along with the necessary appropriation adjustments needed and no further adjustments are needed with this action. Implementing this recommendation is anticipated to result in a minimal impact to staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
