TITLE

DISCUSSION
On June 30, 2020, the City of Long Beach celebrated the grand opening of the expanded Houghton Park Community Center, a project over 6 years in the making. To commemorate the completion, the Ninth District Council office commissioned the “Uptown Renaissance” mural. Designed by the Draculas, “Uptown Renaissance” celebrates the culmination of various Ninth District projects from the past five years, such as the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library, capital improvements to Jordan High School, the Uptown Commons, which brings the first bank to North Long Beach in over 10 years, as well as sit-down restaurants and communal space. The mural also highlights the Deforest Park Wetlands and the Houghton Park Sound Garden, an interactive playground for children, featuring various musical instruments.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to the Draculas for costs associated with the design and execution of the new mural at Houghton Park. The total appropriation increase in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $3,300 will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of $3,300 from the Ninth District General Fund Group One-time District Priority Funds in the Citywide Activities Department.
