Recommendation to direct City Manager and staff to partner with community organizations to identify funds or other opportunities for rebuilding after the civil unrest that occurred the week of May 31, 2020. Specifically, the areas impacted across the city.
DISCUSSION
Many businesses suffered vandalism and burglary on the night of May 31, 2020. These actions left many of our local businesses without resources to fix their broken windows or replace products. This also stalled businesses from opening on June 1, 2020, as allowed by the City’s Stay at Home Health Order.
While the city has limited resources, our Economic Development Team is resourceful at identifying partners and funds to help rebuild. We would like to see the city identify partners for city wide businesses, especially first-time business owners.
URGENCY STATEMENT
This is an urgent request as a response to the civil unrest that occurred in the week of May 31, 2020, reasons why it was not reviewed or approved by Financial Management.
