TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $2,000, offset by the $1,000 of the Third Council District One-time District Priority Funds and $1,000 of the Fourth Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide donations to Wilson High School Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PSTA) for the Sweatshirt Fund; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,000 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
A few years ago, the Third and Fourth Council District Offices were made aware of a funding gap at Wilson High School that needed to be addressed. While school uniforms were supplied at no cost to students in need, there was no provision for the popular school logo sweatshirts. Our offices have since created a program to fill this void with the Sweatshirt Fund. Students on good merit are now eligible to receive a coupon for a free Wilson High School sweatshirt of their choice.
This matter has been reviewed by Grace H. Yoon on February 27, 2020.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to the Wilson High School PSTA for the Sweatshirt Fund. The total appropriation to increase in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department in the amount by $2,000 will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of $1,000 from the Third Council District and $1,000 from the Fourth District one-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. Completing this work is anticipated to result in a minimal impact to staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and a minimal impact on City Council priorities.
