TITLE

Recommendation to request City Manager to provide a report on the progress towards establishing an African American Cultural Center in Long Beach.

DISCUSSION

On February 20, 2018, the City Council voted to authorize the use of city resources to start the process for establishing an African American Cultural Center in Long Beach whose mission is to celebrate, cultivate and advance the enrichment of the heritage and culture of the African American community in Long Beach and beyond.

We request the City Manager to present a status report reflecting progress to that end, including a summary of results prepared by the consultant groups contracted to facilitate the visioning and initial business planning effort.

FISCAL IMPACT

Financial Management review is pending, but the fiscal impact is expected to be insignificant for the recommended action.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

AL AUSTIN COUNCILMAN,

EIGHTH DISTRICT
