TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $3,300, offset by the Third Council District one-time District Priority Funds transferred from the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department to provide funds to the Naples Improvement Association in support of their Emergency Preparedness program; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $3,300 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

In an effort to improve emergency preparedness, the Naples Improvement Association's Community Emergency Response Team have taken huge strides to organize and educate residents on important ways of preparing for a wide range of emergency situations. As communication can become very important and very difficult during an emergency, the Naples emergency preparedness efforts can be supported by providing funding to equip community block captains with radios that would allow for improved communication in the event of an emergency.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on January 30, 2020.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager Department to provide a contribution to the Naples Improvement Association to support a program to provide emergency communication radios. The total appropriation increase of $3,300 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department is offset by a decrease of appropriation of one-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. Implementing this recommendation is anticipated to result in a minimal impact to staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and a minimal impact on City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

SUZIE PRICE COUNCILWOMAN,
