TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all documents necessary to enter into a contract, including any necessary amendments or subcontracts, with the California Department of Public Health, in an annual amount of $186,501 for the period of July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2024, for a total contract amount not to exceed $932,505, to receive and expend assistance funds to develop and implement a public education and outreach program to raise Hepatitis C prevention and control activities; and
Increase appropriation in the Health Fund Group in the Health and Human Services Department by $932,505, offset by grant revenue. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Control Branch is awarding the City of Long Beach $186,501 assistance funds for Hepatitis C virus (Hep C) prevention and control activities. Fifty percent (50%) of the $186,501 award will be provided to community-based organizations (CBOs) to provide Hepatitis C testing, counseling, and linkage to care. The Health and Human Services Department (Health Department) will provide support activities for those living with, or at high risk for, Hepatitis C, including monitoring, prevention, case investigation, and detailed data gathering to describe local Hepatitis C epidemiology and trends. This partnership between the Health Department and selected CBOs will assure proper testing, treatment, and care for vulnerable and underserved clients at high risk for Hepatitis C infection.
